A new series of interviews is dedicated to voice artists, who are twice as interesting to listen to - thanks to their familiar voices. The guest of the first episode is Vasiliy Dakhnenko. After graduating from the Mikhail Shchepkin Higher Theatre School, he joined the Maly Theatre’s stock company, where he played many remarkable roles. Right after graduating from the theatre school Vasiliy took part in the auditions for the «Aladdin» voice-over, but failed. Then he auditioned for the «Sesame Street» voice-over and landed the role of Vlas (Bert in the original). Dakhnenko is well known for being the Russian dubbing voice of Matthew McConaughey, Jake Gyllenhaal, Gerard Butler, Sacha Baron Cohen, Ben Affleck, Christoph Waltz and others. He also voiced Alistair from the computer game «Dragon Age».

Congratulations and happy anniversary to People's Artist of Russia, Valeriy Babyatinskiy, wh is turning 75 on July 75. We wish you a happy jubilee celebration and may you enjoy good health, limitless creative successes and new creative achievements!

Before the premiere of the documentary «His Majesty the Actor» the Artistic Director of the Maly State Academic Theatre of Russia Yury Solomin reflects on the key moments in his greatest journey called life and gives guidance to the rising generation of artists.

LEDUM ON THE GRAVES
-During the 260th theatrical season the Maly Theatre went on tour to Chita. I hadn’t been to my hometown for over 40 years. I saw the house, where we used to live with my parents, then the maternity home, where my brother Vitaliy was born. Obviously, I visited my father's grave. I’ve never seen such cemeteries as in Chita. There are no pathways to the graves, because the forest is all around. It is quite remarkable that the ledum is blooming near every tomb. The post office building made of timber remained. From there I sent a letter with a school certificate to Moscow, to Mikhail Shchepkin Higher Theatre School. The day before I saw a movie called «The Maly Theatre and its artists». To be honest, I’ve never been an A level student. I was good at history, geography, literature. I was studying during difficult wartime – I entered grade one in 1943. I
remember that during my childhood people used to be less cruel and malicious. The film crew of «His Majesty the Actor» filmed my trip to Chita. I really liked the shot with the dog at the viewing point. As the years go by I realize that I like dogs more and more, since they never betray. Unfortunately, people do betray. Every time I want to say: «Never betray your friends, your teachers, your homeland»!

«I WANTED NOTHING BUT TO BE AN ARTIST»
- I became a director, a teacher, but I always wanted to be an artist in the very first place. I came to Moscow to enter the school with my father. I passed two try-outs and was getting ready for the third one. But then an incident happened. My father was robbed at the Yaroslavl railway station. We were left with no money or documents. My father told me that we have no means to live in Moscow and that we have to go home. He offered to go to the artistic director of the course - Vera Nikolaevna Pashennaya and tell her the whole story. Vera Nikolaevna listened to our story, smiled and said: «Well, stay!» Faith helps settle a lot of issues in life.

«I PLAYED A MAN FROM THE MOON»
- We have to shoot more films about the great people. I managed to shoot a three-part film about the Russian scientist, explorer Miklouho-Maclay, and to play in it. One night, I was reading a book called «A Man from the Moon» (this is how the tribes of New Guinea called the explorer) and literally got addicted to his personality. I decided to tell the story of his love for Margaret-Emma, widowed daughter of the Premier of New South Wales (played by Valentina Titova). It is amazing that Miklouho-Maclay’s great-grandson and his namesake is present today, in Moscow, at the premiere of the documentary «His Majesty the Actor». He presented a film about my life in St. Petersburg. My first teacher in Chita sent me letters, in which she gave my roles the grades up until the end of her life. She appraised highly my acting as Miklouho-Maclay. Young people should know their history, and for that you have to recount it honestly and interestingly.

«CASTING TAKES PLACE IN HEAVEN»
- I do not play very often at the theatre nowadays. In the cinema old folks are no longer popular. I started to appear more and more often on the screen when thanks to the great actress Elena Gogoleva I did not join the army. She knew Marshal Malinovskiy, who gave me freedom from the army with the stroke of the pen with the words: «He will do more in the cinema rather than in the army.» I played the main roles in the films «Spring on the Oder», «The Adjutant of His Excellency». Apparently, the casting really takes place in Heaven. If a determined person has a goal to achieve, everything will turn the best possible way. A separate line in my biography was the film directed by the great Akira Kurosawa «Dersu Uzala.» The film won an Oscar.
In 1988, I was elected Artistic Director of the Maly Theatre. I am the first elected artist in the history of the theatre. That's why I've been in this position for such a long time - because my colleagues chose me.

We would like to offer you a recording of a program called «Details» that aired on STS-Kursk TV channel, dedicated to People's Artist of Russia Lyudmila Titova and her performance in Maxim Gorky’s play «Vassa Zheleznova. The first version».

Denis Brodskiy's documentary «His Majesty the Actor» premiered at Oktyabr cinema (Cinema «October»). It is rather hard to say what are Yuri Solomin’s most memorable roles: either the lyrical ones, the comic ones or the dramatic, a the theatre or in cinema. An outstanding theatre director, artistic director of one of the leading theatres of the country, Yuri Solomin has over 50 years of teaching experience in his home Mikhail Shchepkin Higher Theatre School. All these facets of his creative personality are being reflected in a new documentary by Denis Brodskiy «His Majesty the Actor».
