The actor of the Maly Theatre Alexander Vladimirovich Vershinin was awarded the title of People's Artist of Russia. The decree was signed by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on March 28. Warmest congratulations to Alexander on this outstanding achievement!

People’s Artist of the USSR Yuri Solomin and People’s Artist of Russia Lyudmila Polyakova talk about our latest production The Rest is Silence, based on the screenplay Make Way for Tomorrow, written by Viña Delmar on Channel One.

On March 25 state and departmental awards were presented at the Atrium of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia. The award ceremony that was timed to coincide with the Day of the Worker of Culture, was presided by the Minister of Culture of Russia Vladimir Medinsky.

During the ceremony the Artistic Director of the Maly Theatre, People’s Artist of the USSR Yuri Solomin, was presented with a letter of appreciation signed by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin.

Letters of appreciation were also presented to the artistic director of the Gorky Moscow Academic Art Theatre, Eduard Boyakov, film director Yuri Kara, singer Denis Maydanov, Deputy Minister of Culture Nikolay Ovsienko, artistic director of the Pyatnitsky Russian Folk Choir Alexandra Permyakova, general director of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia Vladimir Urin, director Vladimir Khotinenko and artist Alexander Shilov.

On March 27 an award ceremony of the Golden Mask festival was held in the Bolshoi Theatre to honour laureates "for Outstanding Contribution to the Development of Theatre". As we have already reported, People's Artist of USSR Elina Avraamovna Bystritskaya was included in the list of laureates. Unfortunately, Elina Avraamovna herself was not able to attend the ceremony, but her sister Sofia Avraamovna took the stage for her.

The new branch of the Maly Theatre will be opened in Kogalym on March 22 with Alexander Ostrovsky's comedy Enough Stupidity in Every Wise Man. This evening, the leading actors of the theatre will take the stage: People’s Artists of Russia Irina Muravyova, Valeriy Afanasyev, Alexander Klyukvin, Lilia Yudina, Sergey Eremeev, Olga Pashkova, Honored Artists of Russia Alexander Vershinin and Olga Chuvaeva. The same show will be performed on March 23.

On March 23, in the morning, the theatre will invite its young viewers to see Andersen's fairy tale The Snow Queen.

In addition, an exhibition dedicated to the history of the Maly Theatre will be opened in the foyer of the theatre, where the guests will be able to see costumes, set designs, and photographs of actors.

The stage in Kogalym will be a fully functional platform where the Maly Theatre will regularly travel with its performances. The next tour will take place in April.

On March 16 People’s Artist of Russia Alexander Viktorovich Korshunov will be celebrating 35 years of work in the Maly Theatre. We sincerely wish him excellent health, every success in work and undertakings, happiness and wellbeing.

On March 15 first-year students of the Korean studio at the Mikhail Shchepkin Higher Theatre School (artistic director of the course - professor V. S. Sulimov) became guests of the A.I.Sumbatov-Yuzhin's Memorial Apartment. The future actors from Korea were especially fascinated by Yuzhin’s original costume worn by him in the role of Richard III, old photographs and posters.
