The Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Medinsky, signed an open-term employment contract with the artistic director of the Maly Theatre, People’s Artist of the USSR Yuri Solomin.
“I wanted to give you a very special contract. Honestly, over the past few years, it is the first time that I sign a contract of that kind. This is a termless contract to manage the Maly Theatre, ”said Vladimir Medinsky.
The Minister of Culture stressed that the Maly Theatre is one of the leading theatre in the country in terms of occupancy, and is also one of the most efficient theatres in making its own extra-budgetary funds.
“Thank you so much for all the work that you've done, you steered the theatre like a ship through the storm for over 30 years, guarded and defended it from all the troubles, and organized a wonderful reconstruction of a historical building. I wish you more than one year to head the Maly Theatre, which is an example of the classic Russian dramatic art, ”Vladimir Medinsky addressed to Yuri Solomin.
The artistic director of the Maly Theatre thanked the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation for organizing tours of Moscow and St. Petersburg theaters in the regions of Russia. Yuri Solomin mentioned the recent opening of the Maly Theatre's branch in Kogalym.
“The theatre was built in Kogalym within two-years's time. 70 people from our team went there, and everyone was delighted, ”added Yuri Solomin.

Yuri Solomin - Russian actor and director. Born on June 18, 1935 in Chita. He graduated from the the Mikhail Shchepkin Higher Theatre School, the course of Vera Pashennaya. Since 1957 he has been the actor of the Maly Theatre, since 1961, teaches courses at the Shchepkin Theatre School. He staged the following performances in the Maly Theatre - The Government Inspector (1982), The Seagull (1996), The Mysterious Chest (2003) and others. Since 1988 Yuri Solomin has been the artistic director of the Maly Theatre.
He acted in films: Adjutant of His Excellency, Blockade, Dersu Uzala, Going Alone, Ordinary Miracle, Melodies of the White Night, TASS Authorized to State, and others. In 1988 he was awarded the title "People's Artist of the USSR".
