On March 22, 2019 a branch of the Maly Theatre will be opened in Kogalym, in the West Siberian economic region. The project was initiated in 2014 by the LUKOIL company, the Maly Theatre and the Ministry of Culture of Russia in order to expand cultural boundaries and ensure broader access to the cultural heritage to Russian citizens in Siberia.
On March 22, 2019 a branch of the Maly Theatre will be opened in Kogalym, in the West Siberian economic region. The project was initiated in 2014 by the LUKOIL company, the Maly Theatre and the Ministry of Culture of Russia in order to expand cultural boundaries and ensure broader access to the cultural heritage to Russian citizens in Siberia. This initiative was supported by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin.
Construction of the new stage was finished within three years. It was founded on the premises of the former cultural and leisure complex "Yantar", which is located in the heart of the city. The building is now 100 percent complete and on track to be opened in March, 2019. The backstage part, the auditorium for 300 seats and the stage that meets all professional requirements and is ready to welcome any professional theatre company.
The facade of the branch is similar to that of the Moscow branch of the Maly Theatre on Bolshaya Ordynka street. Large-scale productions are being planned to be staged in the theatre. The troupe of the theatre in Kogalym will be formed from the graduates of the Mikhail Shchepkin Theatre School, who will work with professional Russian and foreign directors.
The stage of the Maly Theatre in Kogalym is getting ready to receive its first guests in March 2019.
