On January 28 People's artist of Russia Lyudmila Polyakova celebrates her anniversary. The Maly Theatre is getting ready to celebrate this remarkable event with her. Make Way For Tomorrow by Viña Delmar will premiere on February 10, on Bolshaya Ordynka stage. The new production is staged by Yuri Solomin and stars Lyudmila Petrovna as Lucy Cooper, the protagonist of the play.

With anniversary celebrations ahead, today we would like to wish Lyudmila Petrovna good health, neverending inspiration, well-being and, of course, joy and love, which she herself generously gives away to everyone who comes to the Maly Theatre to see her performances. In proof of this statement is a passage from the play “Wolves and Sheep” by Alexander Ostrovsky, which is one of the most popular videos on the the Maly Theatre's page on YouTube Channel.

We have recently started rehearsals for our new theatre production of "Always Call Dolly" based on Thornton Wilder's play "The matchmaker". The leading role will be performed by the People’s Artist of Russia Irina Muravyova. The Maly State Academic Theatre of Russia and the Publishing House «Speech» are pleased to announce the start of sales of Elena Rakitina’s audio book «The Adventures of the New Year’s Toys». The audiobook was recorded by the artists of the Maly Theatre Irina Leonova and Konstantin Yudaev, with the assistance of Elena Moiseenko (piano) and Anton Moiseenko (clarinet). The book is available for purchase in the foyer of the Maly Theatre and in the Memorial Apartment of A.I. Sumbatov-Yuzhin.

The year 2018 was marked by the anniversary of the great Russian actor Mikhail Semyonovich Shchepkin. We decided to celebrate the 230th anniversary of the founder of the Russian drama school with an unusual video project called «The Link of Times». In today's repertoire of the theatre there are many performances that once brought fame to Shchepkin. We asked the artists, who inherited his roles, to recite short pieces and made videos. Today we invite you to watch the monologue of the Governor from Nikolai Gogol's comedy «The Government Inspector» performed by Honored Artist of Russia Viktor Nizovoy. Directed by Denis Brodskiy.

The festive season is approaching and we are delighted to announce a competition called «I AM A THEATRE DESIGNER». This is a competition for the bold, inventive, for those who are capable of great accomplishments.

We propose our young viewers to become theatre designers! Imagine that your favorite fairy tale was chosen to be staged in the Maly Theatre. A great deal of work lies ahead of you - from colour and cut of the costumes to details of the set design. But we are sure that vivid creative imagination will help you meet the challenge.

All you have to do is:

- draw any picture or any image from a favorite fairy tale or just individual characters in costumes;
- do not forget to take a picture with you when you come to us for one of the New Year tales from December 28 to January 8;
- to hand over the drawing to a special place designated for this purpose before the start of the performance during the intermission“Journey to the world of theatre magic”.

The best works will be displayed in the Maly Theatre!

On November 26, the Russian State Library of Arts hosted the presentation of the exhibition “Masterpieces of the Moscow Stage. Vassa Zheleznova” by Maxim Gorky, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the writer. People’s Artist of Russia Vladimir Beylis, People’s Artist of Russia Lyudmila Titova and Artist Stanislav Soshnikov talked about their work in Maly Theatre's production "Vassa Zheleznova. The First Version". Details are in our report.

On December 21 Daria Shevchuk first appeared on the stage as the Guest at the feast in Pushkin's «Little Tragedies». Congratulations to Daria! We wish her further artistic achievements!
