Performance director Aleksey Dubrovsky has staged in Maly Theatre his 4th production. This time he chose two Ostrovsky’s comedies “Holiday Dream Before Dinner” and “Whatever You Look for You’ll Find” combining them under a common title “The Marriage of Balzaminov”. The main character is a cheerful optimist Misha Balzaminov who in every way tries to find a rich bride and also feelings sometimes without knowing why. “Working on this performance I noticed that almost every character in trilogy about Balzaminov by Ostrovsky lives in the world of illusion and dream, - says Aleksey Dubrovsky. – Pavla Petrovna Balzaminova dreams about son’s happiness, Domna Evstigneevna Belotelova waits for a big love, a matchmaker Akukina Gavrilovna Krasavina looks forward an opportunity to apply her rich imagination, Kapochka and Ustinka live with their own notions of love, and, most importantly, the main character Mikhailo Balzaminov is completely unsuitable for real world. Alexander Nikolaevich Ostrovsky described this characters with their heads in the clouds masterfully and lovingly, so the only sober-minded man, Nil Borisych Neuyedenov, speaking about reasonable and right things, looks unpleasant and repulsive on their background. It became clear that in order to create a performance based on such a multi-layered material, with all the deceptive apparent simplicity, it is impossible to do without our excellent leading artists”.
