Vershinin Alexander

People's Artist of Russia

Alexander Vladimirovich Vershinin, Honored Artist of Russia, was born on November 29, 1965. In 1992 he graduated from Mikhail Semyonovich Shchepkin Higher Theatre School (course of V.I. Korshunov) and joined the Maly Theatre’s company.

Alexander’s pathway to success was almost instant, not least due to his incredible charm, contagious enthusiasm and inherently natural manner. His talent is fully revealed when playing romantic heroes, but he is just as good at performing character roles. A bright illustration of Vershinin’s versatile talent is his acting in «Prince Serebrenni», where the artist performed two completely different roles with equal reliability – that of a noble prince Serebrenni and the other one of a double-faced insidious Fedka Basmanov. Alexander also played three absolutely different characters in the «Secrets of the Madrid Court» by Eugène Scribe and Ernest Leguvé, - the romantic Count Henri d'Albret, the royal prisoner Francis I and the vain careerist Guatinara.

In Leo Tolstoy's «Resurrection» Alexander Vershinin played Prince Nekhlyudov. This role was highly appreciated by theatre critics, who wrote about the artist's ability to reveal the emotional state of his character and at the same time convey the ideas of the great writer to the audience.

Vershinin impersonated two heartless ambitious men hiding under the veil of modesty and kindness – Molchalin in Griboedov’s «Woe from Wit» and Glumov in «Enough Stupidity in Every Wise Man» by Alexander Ostrovsky. These works demonstrate Alexander’s mastery of acting when dealing with the most complex and responsible roles of the Russian classical repertoire.

Apart from a rather long and distinguished stage career, Alexander also acted in numerous supporting TV and film roles. He is most notable for playing poet Alexei Koltsov «At the Dawn of a Foggy Youth». On the small screen Vershinin tried his hand at popular television series «Three Against All», «Margosha», «Isaev»2 «FM and the Guys», «The Thief-2. Happiness For Rent», to name a few.

Alexander is an energetic performer consistently recognised as diligent, conscientious, passionate and hard working, with an upbeat, positive attitude and demeanour.
