Valeriy Afanasyev was born on August 20, 1949. In 1970 he graduated from the acting department of the Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute, course of Marianna Ter-Zakharova. From 1990 to 2011 worked in Moscow State Theater In The Southwest. From 2011 to 2017 he worked in the Stanislavsky Electrotheatre.
On March 1, 2017 Valeriy joined the company of the Maly Theatre. In 2005 he was awarded the title of People's Artist of Russia.
