The series «The Library of the Maly Theatre» will soon be replenished with a new edition: a monograph by Natalia Pashkina dedicated to the director of the Maly Theatre People’s Artist of Russia Vladimir Beylis. This is a 88-page book filled with beautiful images. It will be available for purchase in the foyer of the Maly Theatre.

On November 2 Aleksey Dubrovskiy first appeared as Epikhodov in Chekhov's «The Cherry Orchard». Congratulations to Aleksey!

On November 4 Daria Shevchuk made her stage debut in the role of Ottilie, Ill's daughter in Friedrich Dürrenmatt’s «The Visit of the Old Lady». We sincerely wish her every success in her future endeavours.

The director of the new version, Vitaliy Ivanov, kept the general concept of the production, having vivified the cast and set design.

Jealous sisters - mean Povarikha (Cook) and sly Tkachikha (Weaver). The main thing is that the characters should be like in a fairy tale - just like Pushkin created them. Practically all the young actors of the Maly Theatre are involved in this production. Actors cannot hide their excitement. It is said that the favorite fairy tale of childhood, you know by heart every line. For the graduate of the Mikhail Shchepkin Higher Theatre School, Maksim Filatov, this is the first season and the first performance here. «There are so many details there, such an atmosphere is made there, since the performance is old,» he says.

In 1999 drawings by Ivan Bilibin, who illustrated Pushkin's fairy tales, were taken as the basis for the set design of the first edition of the play. Back then the production was a huge success. But a few years ago the performance was removed from the repertoire due to the reconstruction of the theatre. Now «The Tale of Tsar Saltan» is back.

Vitaliy Ivanov, the director of all children's productions at the Maly Theatre, pays special attention to details and maintains a careful attitude towards text. «I believe that while adults are fighting, who is right, who is to blame, it’s necessary for the children to do, bring up a generation,» he says.

«The Tale of Tsar Saltan» will be recounted to young viewers by characters from other Pushkin's tales — Forest Spirit, Tsar's Son, Wise story-telling cat and Koshchei. At the same time, the story itself will not be different from the original.

Last winter, a rather unusual New Year fairy tale performance «The Adventures of the New Year’s Toys» was held in A.I.Sumbatov-Yuzhin's Memorial Apartment. By popular request, we’ve decided to include this wonderful chamber performance for children in our winter repertoire. Magic fills the air during the holiday season. It can be seen on a frosty glass window or on the silvery surface of a Christmas tree toy, when you gently pull it out of the box, unfold it, barely breathing, untangle the thread and choose a suitable place for it on a Christmas tree...

During the holiday season all of the Christmas and New Year toys magically come to life, and their hilarious adventures begin. Do you want to know about the adventures of the plasticine donkey? Or how the little puppy Tyavka became brave? Or why is it so important that there is no dust on the silver fairy? And when does the ball takes place, where all wishes and desires come true?

Then come join us in a cozy mansion in the Bolshoy Palashevsky Lane where our artists Irina Leonova and Konstantin Yudaev, as well as their friends-musicians Anton and Elena Moiseenko will tell you a fairy tale world created by the wonderful children's author Elena Rakitina. This story is woven from memories from your childhood - fluffy snow, the scents of fir needles, citrus and Christmas cheer.

October 27 marks 9 days since the death of Dmitriy Solodovnik. We would like to honor his memory by sharing the video of «Late Love» by Alexander Ostrovsky, where Dima plays Dormedont. In this production Dima managed to create a very lively image of a very open-hearted young man.

On Monday, October 22, fire safety training was held in the Maly Theatre with the assistance of the duty units of the city fire department to work out joint actions carried out in the event of fire or emergency. Fire training in photos by Igor Gerasev.

On October 19, the actor of the Maly Theatre Dmitriy Nikolayevich Solodovnik passed away. A gifted young artist has died at the age of 39. On January 12 he would have turned 40.

Any obituary consists of closing remarks, numbers, statistics. But it's not pure statistics, it also has to do with emotions. The horror, bewilderment, bitterness of loss, the inability to believe that such a young and gifted person is no longer with us.

Dmitriy was a talented actor and will be greatly missed. The actors and the administration of the Maly Theatre are shocked and truly saddened by this tragic loss. We express deep condolences to the family and friends of Dmitriy Solodovnik. May his soul rest in peace.
