On August 30, the Maly Theatre Through the Centuries exhibition opened on Strastnoy Boulevard.
The exhibition is divided into several themed groups: History and Present section is made up of photos from various productions of the legendary play Woe from Wit by Alexander Griboyedov. In the XIX century the role of Famusov was played by Mikhail Shchepkin, Ivan Samarin, Alexander Lensky, in the XX century - Alexander Yuzhin, Konstantin Zubov, Mikhail Tsaryov and others. Today Woe from Wit, directed by Sergey Zhenovach, runs on the Historical stage and the main role is played by the artistic director of the Maly Theatre, People's Artist of the USSR Yuri Solomin.
Another themed section is dedicated to Alexander Ostrovsky and his legacy. We have displayed photos of the scenes from modern productions based on Ostrovsky's plays, as well as performances of past years.
The exposition, consisting of 60 stands, is open until the end of September.
