A monument to Alexander Ostrovsky stands in front of the Maly Theatre, sometimes called The House of Ostrovsky, in recognition of the playwright, who did so much to create the theater's fame. It was unveiled in 1923 to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of the playwright and is located at the main entrance to the theatre. The monument is made out of bronze and shows Ostrovsky sitting pensively on a chair.
