July 15 marks the 165th anniversary of the birth of the great Russian actress Maria Nikolaevna Ermolova (1853-1928). In September the Maly Theatre will dedicate two performances in memory of this legendary actress: «Talents and admirers» by Alexander Ostrovsky (September 14) and «The Last Sacrifice» by Alexander Ostrovsky (September 21).
Today, we are sharing with you two unique recordings.
The first one is the monologue of Maria Stuart from t F. Schiller's tragedy «Maria Stuart». The recordings are more than 100 years old, but you can feel Ermolova's compelling and genuine temperament and the power of her talent, through time.
And the second one is a recording of the evening held on June 22, 2016 in the A.I. Sumbatov-Yuzhin''s memorial apartment, which was devoted to the relationship between Maria Ermolova and Glikeriya Fedotova.
Their letters were read by the actresses of the Maly Theatre Klavdiya Moiseeva and People's Artist of Russia Alyona Okhlupina
People's Artist of Russia Vladimir Beylis directed the evening.
